Join Jeff Hall, the Statewide Herpetologist and NC Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation program lead for the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission, to learn more about these native hellbenders, mudpuppies, and water dogs! Hired in 2007 by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, Jeff Hall is the Statewide Herpetologist and NC Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation program lead. Through his work with NCPARC, Jeff works with landowners to promote habitat management that benefits reptiles and amphibians as well as other wildlife species. Join Small is All Productions for Circle and Square, a play designed for ages 2-5 and their parents/caregivers to attend and enjoy together. In this interactive, mostly nonverbal story, audiences meet the free spirit Circle, followed by highly structured Square. These two characters have a hard time figuring out how to play together because they are so different. Throughout the play, Circle and Square discover each other's unique gifts and how they can be combined to have even more fun together than apart. Learn how to use a sewing machine and how to sew by hand with the non-profit Connecting with Threads. This six-week series of programs enables tweens and teens to build their knowledge as they become independent sewers. They will also be making a project to give to someone in our community--a dog blanket or a pillowcase! The six programs are scheduled for: August 29, Sept 12, Sept. 26, Oct. 10, Oct. 17, and Oct. 24. To complete all activities, tweens and teens will need to attend all six sessions. For tweens (ages 9 and up) and teens Registration is required! Join the Maker + STEAM Team in the Innovation Lab during specified open hours to discover how you can use the properties of electricity and circuit building in order to create a game controller with a Makey Makey kit! Duke Ballet & Books is a group of Duke University student volunteers who run free arts and literacy programming for 6-9 year olds. There are two parts to every Ballet & Books session: 1. 45-minute ballet class where students learn choreography to perform at an end-of-semester showcase. 2. 45-minute reading mentorship session where mentors and students read together and do related activities aimed at helping build literacy skills. This class is geared towards tweens and teens who already know how to sew and/or have completed 12 weeks of our Learn To Sew program. In this program, they will learn how to complete intermediate level projects from start to finish as they expand their knowledge from basic sewing skills to creating complete projects from a pattern. They will also be making a project to give to someone in our community--perhaps a dog blanket or a quilt for a baby in the NICU.
