Please note that the Reading Wranglers program is for children ages 6-12 who can sit with a book and read independently. Join us for another season of Reading Wranglers with Renew Therapeutic Riding Center! This is a unique opportunity for children to read 1-on-1 to a horse. Reading Wranglers is a particularly powerful experience for readers who may be struggling a bit or need to gain confidence. Studies show that kids tend to see animals as non-judgmental (they certainly don't mind if you make a mistake!) and that reading to them helps improve kids' reading skills and fluency. Renew's therapy horses are professionals at creating a relaxed, low-stress environment with no humans hovering as the kids read. Reading Wranglers is facilitated by certified professionals at Renew in partnership with Herrick District Library. Registration is required beginning 2 weeks before each event. Ready to go beyond the basics of the Arduino Starter Kit? Take the core logic of the famous Project 10: Zoetrope and upgrade it into a high-powered, adjustable fan. In this session, we’ll swap the standard L293D H-Bridge for the beefier L298N Motor Driver module. While the original Zoetrope spins a paper cylinder, our version drives a high-speed DC motor with a plastic fan blade to move some serious air. Prerequisite: Completing Project 10: Zoetrope from the Arduino Starter Kit. Patrons can stop by Groundworks any time Groundworks is open to complete this project before registering for this workshop. No appointment necessary. Groundworks will provide all materials including laptops and the Arduino Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Attendees are more than welcome to bring and use their own laptops with the Arduino IDE pre-installed . All registrants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This event is a part of the Holland Amateur Radio Club’s monthly education and training program. Participants will use spackle to create fun seasonal designs, then paint and decorate their signs with their own personal style. Learn how to make a 3D lantern from paper that can hang from a hook using Groundworks' Silhouette Cameo cutting machines . Filled with LED fairy lights, these are the great decorations for the Halloween season. Prerequisite: Basic Computer Skills and being comfortable learning new computer software. Groundworks has a limited number of laptops available on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are welcome to bring their own laptop with the Silhouette Studio Basic software (FREE) pre-installed.

Stroll the lot to discover a surprising mix of artwork - largely inspired by found and recycled objects. Enjoy music and freshly brewed coffee. Materials are provided, but you are welcome to add special items from home to enhance your design. This workshop is for ages 16 and up. Join Maker-in-Residence Jaer Medina for a workshop exploring the creative potential of printers! Together, we’ll learn a little bit about the history of zines, look at a few examples, and eventually craft our own zines together. No previous art making experience required! About Jaer Medina Jaer is a Chicano artist and educator based in Holland, Michigan. He is a graduate of Grand Valley State University’s Department of Visual and Media Arts. Working across photography, collage, sculpture, and social practice, he builds his work with readily available tools. He often tinkers with found materials, home printers, and simple tools, such as hammer and nails to create work that is grounded in accessible craft. His practice challenges urban-normative ideas of culture by centering the space-making and creative traditions of Midwestern Mexican-American communities. Outside his visual art practice, Jaer runs CREA, a community-centric art space and incubator exploring the role of art in public life through exhibitions, workshops, neighborhood newspapers, and other forms of public programming.
