American Girl of the Month Club (ages 6-12) Join us once a month to celebrate the diverse culture of the United States! Each program will feature one of American Girl s historical dolls and include fun activities that are inspired by her stories. Wednesday, September 23 (1 & 4 pm) - The September program will spotlight a Native American girl from 1764 named Kaya, who is a member of the Nimiipuu, or Nez Perce tribe of present-day Idaho. Kaya s story reflects her love for the natural world and her family. She hopes to become a strong and courageous leader for her people. Wednesday, October 21 (1 & 4 pm) - October's program spotlights Felicity Merriman, a daring and spunky girl who is growing up in Colonial America during the early American Revolutionary War period. Felicity loves horses and prefers to be outdoors instead of doing what she describes as quiet, sitting down kinds of things . Wednesday, November 18 (1 & 4 pm) - November's program centers around Caroline Abbott, who lives on Lake Ontario in upper New York state and enjoys helping her family run a shipyard. Stuffie Sleepover at the Library (All Ages) - Friday, September 25 through Saturday, September 26 Drop off your special stuffed animal at the library on Friday, September 25th any time before 7pm to enjoy a special slumber party with the librarians! Kids will be required to fill out a permission slip and questionnaire with their stuffie s name, description, dislikes, preferences, and contact information. On Saturday, you can pick up your fluffy friend any time before 5pm. Don t worry... we ll keep them very busy, so they don t get homesick. We ll also help them make a keepsake to remember their first night away from home. Of course, plenty of photos will be taken so you can see what your stuffed animal was up to all night! Sensory Storytime (Ages 3-8) - Wednesdays, September 30, October 28, and November 25 (10 am) REGISTRATION REQUIRED Join us for a monthly storytime that s designed for children with sensory and adaptive needs, and their caregivers. Welcoming to neurodivergence and disability, Sensory Storytime features a consistent visual schedule, announced transitions, low lighting, decreased distractions, and a small attendance capacity. We will enjoy stories, music, movement, play, and sensory activities that are typically at a preschool level. Noise-blocking headphones, weighted stuffed animals, and other sensory tools will also be available. Storytime will be followed by a variety of sensory activity stations. What to expect during this story time: Attendees do not need to sit during the program. Children can feel free to stand or move around during the program as long as they are safe for themselves and others. Children can participate with their voices in any way they like to, and enjoy other activities of their choosing while listening to our stories. Sunday Matinee Contra Dance (All Ages) Sundays (2-4 pm) Join us for a free community Contra Dance, sponsored by the Spokane Folklore Society and featuring a local band. Contra dancing is a type of traditional folk dance from New England. Dancers face each other in contra lines and move up and down the formation as couples, in figures directed by a caller. The Virginia reel is a dance in this style. You don t have to be experienced the caller teaches all the moves! Special clothing is not necessary, and no partner is needed singles and couples are invited, and families are welcome. National Park Explorers (Ages 6-12) A program where science meets adventure! Join us each month to explore the natural beauty, history, wildlife, and geological wonders of America s National Parks. Each month will highlight a different park s unique features and delve into the science behind what makes the park spectacular. Wednesday, September 16 (1 & 4 pm) - Haleakala is our September park. Be prepared to discover the dramatic volcanic landscape and subtropical rainforests of this beachside Hawaiian paradise. Wednesday, October 14 (1 & 4 pm) - In October, this program will highlight Lake Clark National Park. Located in southwest Alaska, it boasts turquoise lakes, active volcanoes, and massive glaciers. The impressive landscape is home to some of the world's largest and fiercest predators, and we'll take a close look at life at the top of the food chain in this rugged park. Saturday with the Symphony: A Children s Program (3+yo) Third Saturday, each month (11-11:45 am) Children 3 and older can enjoy Saturday with the Symphony from 11-11:45 a.m. Saturday, at the Coeur d Alene Public Library. The free music education program is coordinated by the Coeur d Alene Symphony Orchestra and recurs the third Saturday of each month. The music-filled hour typically includes a fun musical performance, an interactive activity and a book reading by the children s librarian. Past musical performances have included traditional classical music, jazz, pop and world music. Come for a lively morning of musical enrichment! American Girl of the Month Club (ages 6-12) Join us once a month to celebrate the diverse culture of the United States! Each program will feature one of American Girl s historical dolls and include fun activities that are inspired by her stories. Wednesday, September 23 (1 & 4 pm) - The September program will spotlight a Native American girl from 1764 named Kaya, who is a member of the Nimiipuu, or Nez Perce tribe of present-day Idaho. Kaya s story reflects her love for the natural world and her family. She hopes to become a strong and courageous leader for her people. Wednesday, October 21 (1 & 4 pm) - October's program spotlights Felicity Merriman, a daring and spunky girl who is growing up in Colonial America during the early American Revolutionary War period. Felicity loves horses and prefers to be outdoors instead of doing what she describes as quiet, sitting down kinds of things . Wednesday, November 18 (1 & 4 pm) - November's program centers around Caroline Abbott, who lives on Lake Ontario in upper New York state and enjoys helping her family run a shipyard. She especially loves all of the activities that the lake offers, like sailing, skating, and fishing. Caroline dreams

Autumn Family Storyfest & Pumpkin Giveaway Friday, October 23 (10 am) Celebrate harvest season at the library! We ll meet outside in the brisk fall weather to have a fun family storytime that includes autumn books, silly songs, action rhymes, and more. When storytime ends at 10:30, families can sip hot cider while picking out a pumpkin to take home that was grown using the city s own Coeur d Green compost! There will also be an opportunity to decorate pumpkin cookies, make a fall craft, and play some festive games!
