For ages 5-12 years old: Celebrate the fall season with a fun-filled Scarecrow Storytime! We'll listen to a cute story about a scarecrow, then make our own scarecrow craft using a bottle and twinkling lights. Afterwards, we'll take a stroll through the garden to visit the scarecrows on display! Please register all participating children. Parents must stay with children at all times during the program. *Please note: Complimentary admission is available only during official library programs. Create spooky, glowing designs and transform a plain black tote into the perfect candy-collecting bag for Halloween night. C.A.F.E. (Career Access For Everyone) will introduce teens to successful career pathways that do not require a traditional four-year degree. Through interactive rotations with local professionals, students will explore careers that can be entered with a two-year degree, certificate, apprenticeship, specialized training, or other short-term credential. Career professionals will share how they got started, what they do each day, education and training requirements, potential earnings, advancement opportunities, and advice for young people considering their field. Students will rotate between speakers before participating in an open networking session where they can ask questions and learn more about specific careers. The goal of C.A.F.E. is simple: to help teens understand that there is more than one pathway to a successful future and give them the information they need to discover the path that's right for them. This program is for ages 13-18.
The Owensboro Symphony presents Symphony Storytime! This program introduces children to some of the most recognizable classical music by reading stories from The Story Orchestra Book Series, which brings classical music to life for children through gorgeously illustrated retellings of classical ballet, opera, and program music stories paired with 10-second sound clips of orchestras playing from their musical scores. Each Symphony Storytime includes reading a storybook with musical interludes from famous orchestral works and a music education component where students will learn about the composer, the music heard, and can ask questions and interact with the Owensboro Symphony’s education team.
What happens when your paycheck meets the real cost of living? This interactive financial literacy workshop challenges teens to experience what it takes to manage money in the real world. Participants will explore budgeting, income and expenses, checking and savings accounts, debit and credit, responsible spending, saving, and everyday financial decision-making. Using today's cost of living, teens will be challenged to make choices about housing, transportation, food, utilities, entertainment, and other expenses while determining whether their income is enough to cover their lifestyle—or whether they end up living paycheck to paycheck. Presented by DeMarcus Curry, the workshop is designed to make financial literacy practical, engaging, and relevant while helping teens understand an important lesson: It's not only about how much money you make—it's also about how you manage it. This program is for ages 13-18.

A representative from Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) will be at the library to answer questions and assist families in filling out the FAFSA. From 5-6 pm, Katie Ballard, a retired college counselor with 30+ years of experience, will give a presentation about financial aid, scholarships, and resources to help teens afford higher education. This program is for teens ages 13-18 and their families.
