Adventure starts at the library with OPL’s Legends and Libraries, a D&D club for teens. Meet new friends, have fun rolling dice, fight monsters, and maybe even save the world in this cooperative storytelling game of adventure, mystery, and imagination. In this workshop, Dr. Jay A. Irwin (they/them and he/him pronouns), Associate Professor of Sociology at University of Nebraska at Omaha, will present on the health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities. Topics include dynamics of identity and behavior, health disparities faced by LGBTQIA+ people including physical and mental health disparities, and ways and strategies to increase inclusion. Dr. Jay Irwin, whose research, publications, and public service involve the health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ communities. Their work has been published in the following peer-reviewed journals: Journal of Gay and Lesbian Mental Health, Sexuality Research and Social Policy, Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity, Gender Issues, Journal of Homosexuality, International Journal of Transgender Health (formerly International Journal of Transgenderism), Transgender Health, LGBT Health, among others. Teaching Artist Bio: Shelly Nosbisch is a local cozy mystery author. Shelly is living her best life when she’s teaching writing as well. She is a teaching artist with Nebraska Writers Collective, teaching spoken word poetry, micro fiction, and novel writing. Each month we’ll cover a brand new science topic and complete an activity or art project associated with it. This month we’re kicking off fall by learning why leaves change colors and making nature inspired leaf prints.
