With Banned Book Week just around the corner (October 4-10), learn about everyone's right to decide what they read for themselves and create artwork that features your favorite challenged titles. Books of all kinds, creeds, and topics are challenged every day, and often people don't know that such favorites as The Fault in Our Stars (John Green), Game of Thrones (George R.R. Martin), and the Bad Kitty (Nick Bruel) picture book series are in danger of being banned or censored. With such dangerous wares as books on offer, we may just have to have a password for entry. Please register for this program so that we can provide adequate zine-creation materials to attendees, as well as special literary-themed food and drinks. This event is for youth ages 10-18.

Make your voice heard in this core group of middle- and high-schoolers who help decide the library's teen services, meet new friends, and gain volunteer hours in service to the library. Teen Advisory Board members may volunteer at library events, review collections and suggest purchases, and represent the teen voice at Library Board of Directors meetings. Older members of the Board mentor younger members until they're able to join as a full member (13-18). Free pizza and snark at every meeting. A note from the current teen Board Members: The everyday shorthand name of this group is TA-the-"b"-is-silent,-if-you-pronounce-the-"b"-we'll-expel-you. Feel free to read into that what you will in terms of our group character.
